The National Centre of Audiovisual Media and Communication – EKOME S.A. was founded by Law 4339/2015 of the Ministry of Digital Policy Telecommunications and Media. It is a legal entity governed by private law, with a mission to promote and foster public and private initiatives, foreign and domestic, in all sectors of the creative industry. To this end, EKOME S.A. has a threefold strategic mission: a) to create the proper infrastructure that will help boost entrepreneurship and attract foreign direct investments in the Greek audiovisual sector; b) to operate as a centre for the creation of the national audiovisual and digital archives policy and c) to develop a framework for promoting Media and Information Literacy for all citizens. EKOME's actions on media literacy fall under its third pillar Education for enhancing an informed citizenry. On that same note, EKOME coordinates the UNESCO GAPMIL European Sub-Chapter Mediterranean Group with the aim to promote MIL skills as basic component for the 21st century citizen in Southern Europe.
