Lai Cheng Wong

Wong is a media and communication educator with more than 15 years of combined work experience in publishing, media planning, and strategic communication. She actively contributes to the development of Media and Information Literacy (MIL) regionally and globally through her speaking, consulting and publishing work. As one of the co-founders of MIL for ASEAN Network, she focuses on developing the MIL skills and competencies of educators to create a multiplier effect while actively advocating for MIL in the public discourse and classroom settings. In 2020, she helped establish partnerships to conduct a series of webinars, and TechCamp to train teachers on a multi-disciplinary approach to MIL and digital literacy. In 2023, she organised the ASEAN Teachers MIL Boot Camp for 100 teachers and educators from Cambodia, Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines and Thailand on integrating MIL into their schools’ curricula, a project supported by the U.S. Department of State, U.S. Embassy Kuala Lumpur and UNESCO MIL Alliance. The Network was awarded the Global Media and Information Literacy Awards supported by UNESCO for their work to promote and equip teachers with MIL competencies in the Southeast Asia region. Wong is currently researching for her Ph.D. in Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM). She particularly looks at educators’ media literacy competencies level.
