IAME participated to 2025 UNESCO Global Media and Information Literacy Feature Conference hosted by the Republic of Colombia in Cartagena de Indias, Colombia, under the theme “Minds Over AI – MIL in Digital Spaces”. The event, part of UNESCO Global Media and Information Literacy Week, was attended by 1000 participants – policymakers, educators, researchers, youth, and media professionals from across the world – who attended 29 side events and 4 plenary sessions in full room. In addition, 100 UNESCO MIL Alliance members gathered in the pre-conference event (Day 0) on the adoption of the Cartagena Declaration on Relaunching the UNESCO MIL Alliance: Strengthening Global Cooperation, marking a milestone in advancing collective action toward MIL for all.
Two Board members of IAME were present, newly elected member Ms Irene Andriopoulou, Director of Education & Heritage from EKKOMED, Hellenic Film and Audiovisual Center and Ex. Director CIFEJ, from Greece and Mr Andzongo Blaise Pascal, President of Cameroon Media Education Association (EDUK- MEDIA) from Cameroon.

The main focus of UNESCO Conference was to explore how MIL can guide societies in navigating the complexities of Artificial Intelligence while safeguarding human agency and critical thinking. IAME’s participation in this flagship UNESCO event reaffirmed its mission to empower children and young people through film and media literacy, fostering their capacity to think critically, engage creatively, and connect globally through the moving image.
