New board members and new Vice Presidency at IAME

In September 2025, the IAME Annual General Meeting was held in Athens, Greece. The meeting was organised there thanks to the warm welcome from the Karpos association and capitalising on the fact that many IAME members were travelling to the Greek capital to participate in the TADAM project’s Media Edukathon.

The general meeting provided an opportunity to review the past year and the various initiatives carried out by the association in 2024.

Association’s future developments

The association’s future developments were discussed during this formal meeting. Here are the main issues discussed

  • Strengthen IAME’s visibility to increase its stature and, as a result, offer better opportunities to its members.
  • Prioritize investment in the development and reach of the newsletter, while reducing efforts on social media, as the latter demands high effort for limited impact.
  • Use both the newsletter and social media strategically to highlight good practices and promote IAME’s work.
  • Expand dissemination efforts through national networks of media educators and make materials more accessible to practitioners.
  • Encourage more active participation from members and create meaningful opportunities for engagement.
  • Position IAME as a trusted filter for educational resources—ensuring quality, user-friendliness, and relevance—while acknowledging that resources alone are not enough.
  • Strengthen exchange, sharing, and guidance among teachers, researchers, and other professionals.
  • Create more opportunities for members to express how they can contribute and connect with others. A key message for members is: What can you offer to the network?
  • Promote thematic gatherings and discussions on shared challenges across different countries, leveraging international dialogue to connect members.
  • Support the sharing and dissemination of good practices across the network.

Elections of new board members

Every three years, the IAME Administrative Board must be reconstituted. To this end, a call for candidates was issued and their applications were presented to the members. The full members then proceeded to vote.
We therefore warmly welcome the new members of the IAME Administrative Board for the period 2022–2028:

  • ANDRIOPOULOU Irene , representing EKKOMED – Hellenic Film and Audiovisual Center, Greece
  • ANDZONGO Blaise Pascal, Cameroon
  • CAPPELLO Gianna, representing MED, Italy
  • DEBRABANDERE Tatiana, representing Conseil Supérieur de l’Education aux Medias, Belgium
  • FOTIADE Nicoleta, Romania
  • KNIERZINGER Johannes, Austria
  • LEONIDA Maria, Greece
  • ORBAN DE XIVRY, Anne-Claire, representing Media Animation, Belgium
  • PIELSTICKER Anja, representing Gesellschaft für Medienpädagogik und Kommunikationskultur GMK e.V, Germany
  • VERNIERS  Patrick, Belgium
  • WATHELET Emmanuel, representing IHECS, Belgium

New presidency and vice presidency

The new board then met online in October and November 2025. Among the members, two candidates were elected as President and Vice-Président of the IAME Administrative Board.

  • Nicoleta Fotiade was re-elected as President of the association. She is planning to continue her involvement as a porte-parole and promoter of the actions of IAME the way she has done it during my first mandate, and with the support of her fellow Board members to lead our organisation towards stronger community actions, support and exchange between media educators all over the world.
  • Tatiana Debrabandere was elected as Vice President of the association. Building on her experience in media literacy coordination and international collaboration, she would like to express her interest in the role of Vice President within IAME. Although she is still new to the association, she is deeply motivated to understand its inner workings and the broader institutional challenges surrounding media literacy, so that she can meaningfully contribute to its strategic orientations. Her work to represent the Higher Council for Media Literacy in the French-speaking Community of Belgium has allowed her to coordinate projects, facilitate stakeholder cooperation, and participate in European initiatives. She aims to support IAME’s mission by promoting its actions, strengthening dialogue between members, and encouraging meaningful exchanges across diverse media literacy contexts, ensuring that their actions remain relevant, impactful, and aligned with the needs of educators, learners, and institutions worldwide.

Thank to both of them for their dedication and time given to the association and the sustainability of its initiatives.
