Games and Media Education

Each year GMK (the German Professional Association for Media Education, Media Literacy and Communication Culture) organizes a Forum for Communication and Culture. In 2022 it took place in November in Bielefeld on the topic “Media Literacy and Games Cultures”. In the framework of this big event, IAME, FG Global Media Literacy and GMK were glad to invite you to an online webinar in English and German about the “Representations of Cultures in Games”.

Representations of Cultures in Games

The webinar “Representations of Culture in Games” will be composed of two contributions:

-* in German: Games als Ausdruck und Raum interkultureller Fürsorge
Games as an Expression and Space of (Inter-)Cultural Care
Speaker: DR. SEBASTIAN MÖRING – Universität Potsdam, Germany

Sebastian Möring is an academic staff member in the European Media Studies programme at the University of Potsdam and the Potsdam University of Applied Sciences, senior coordinator of DIGAREC (Centre for Computer Games Research at the University of Potsdam) and sub-project leader in the BMBF-funded research project “Forschen|Lernen Digital (FoLD)”. His research focuses on the philosophy and aesthetics of computer games, in-game photography, green game studies and the use of computer games in educational contexts. -* in English: Games as Soul Guides – What are the properties and potentials of games that help us ponder existential questions of identity, meaning and purpose?

Speaker: DR. DORIS C. RUSCH Uppsala University, Sweden

Dr. Doris C. Rusch is a full professor of game design with a special focus on Transformative Play at Uppsala University, Department of Game Design. She is the author of “Making Deep Games” and numerous journal papers and book chapters. In her work, she integrates an existential approach with life coaching and creative practices and has designed numerous award winning games. Her current project harnesses the power of role play, deep game design and symbolic enactment as well as radical transformational leadership to foster a Soulful and Sustainable Academia.
